Austin TX, Hilltop Log, Coldpocalypse Day 4. The "wintry mix" from previous news forecasts did not materialize. I am annoyed, as I was hoping to skip my scheduled blood draw this morning. I call the doctor and plead that there is ice on one bridge two counties over and the skies still look ominous. The doctor dismisses my arguments. I drive to the office despite the life-threatening 40 degree temperature.
I survived. With my lab draw done, I plan to stress-eat too much pizza later today and blame it on my doctor.

According to the Atmospheric weather app (astronomy focused), we're going to have near 100% cloud cover here in Houston. 😕 there's no chance of a trip out to West Texas for better seeing because of an early morning software upgrade at work.
I hope at least one of you gets to see Mars disappearing behind the Moon!
An American tragedy in two parts.
(In WNC the hotel vouchers expired and temps are going to be in the teens tonight. Miles long lines for propane and heaters today.)
[Edited to add that FEMA extended vouchers (at 5:30pm today) so people don't have to be out until the 12th.]
[Edit 2: Mercury One has paid for the vouchered hotel rooms for 3 weeks so no one's getting kicked into the cold.]
