You wake up tomorrow morning to find all your plans have been cancelled for the next seven days and $10,000 on your dresser. Tell us about your week
My instinct would be to put the money in savings and keep doing exactly what I’ve been doing—but I realize this isn’t the spirit of the prompt. The spirit of the prompt is that I suddenly have a free week and $10,000 on my dresser. Honestly why is this money on my dresser and not my kitchen table? Seems sketchy. Money on a dresser immediately conjures an image of someone paying me for sex. Is that just me? This is like how the movie Pretty Woman begins.
I digress.
I’d rent a sick house in Joshua Tree, one big enough for family to come stay if they wanted, and I’d go stay there with Hope, Jeren and our daughter. I’d strap her in her carrier and go for hikes in the morning and afternoon. During the day we’d explore places like Jumbo Rocks and the boy scout trail and Wonderland of Rocks. At night we would cook a great dinner and then stare at the stars from the hot tub. We would check out the cool stuff in town like the farmer’s market and the Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum.
Rinse and repeat for seven days. Soaking up the silence. Hopefully enjoying some of the spring bloom after all the rain this year. The palette that is so soothing to the soul, beige and green and blue. We’d watch sunrises and eat hard-boiled eggs from the top of my favorite perch. We’d take in sunsets and moonrises. It would be magical, restorative and the best way to introduce our little girl to what is essentially, my church.
